If you talk to anyone who has spent any time in the Los Angeles area and you ask about Nautica, the response is going to be “De la Cruz?” Among the well-known personalities who have graced the Southern California airwaves, Nautica de la Cruz sits on her disc jockey throne as the recognized voice of midday radio. Having spent nearly 22 years working in every aspect of radio from production to programming, she is now moving from behind the boards, catching the eye of several major television networks.
Nautica’s career began with a short stint on the Northern California Spanish radio station, KNTA Que Buena, but it really took off after L.A mega station Power 106 heard her English demo tape and hired her as their midday deejay. As she won the hearts of listeners in Southern California, Nautica was wooed away by Power’s rival radio station KKBT, The Beat, to join their morning lineup alongside Hip Hop greats Ed Lover and Dr.Dre.
Nautica moved on to sit at the right hand of actor/comedian/TV host Steve Harvey on the #1 rated Steve Harvey Morning Show, which was in nationwide syndication. As the show producer, traffic reporter, weather reporter and host of Sabor Latino, her vibrant energy and humor helped expand the listener base to move beyond urban audiences. Nautica has earned the respect of her peers and is one of the most referred female radio personalities, able to speak to audiences across a variety of color lines. Now she is honored to work at 102.3fm KJLH, own by R&B legend Stevie Wonder. She served as producer on his weekly show and now she brightens up your middays with a bit of Hip Hop flavor and Latin culture and infuses quick-witted humor to spill the celebrity tea on her signature segment, “The Nauti News.”
Nautica is a person that is not afraid to take a risk or try something new. This New York native of Puerto Rican, Colombian and Jamaican descent is a firecracker! Listen live M-F 10a-1p www.kjlhradio.com 102.3fm
